Teen Maze coming up in March

Polk Family Connection is going to need your help this coming month as they get ready to present the newly updated Teen Maze for 2024.

After postponing the event usually held in early November for ninth graders in local and area schools at Camp Antioch (aka the Polk-Haralson Christian Life Center,) PFC Director Rhonda Heuer said the time is growing short and the need for volunteers to help run the two-day event is great.

Heuer has a small group so far to help, but many more will be needed to handle the influx of every 10th grade student who will be coming to the Camp Antioch campus on March 20 and 21.

Volunteers who have taken part in the past will need to sign up early and get involved now ahead of the event, as some major changes are underway for what students are presented at the Teen Maze.

“We updated the language and scenarios we show to students at the Teen Maze in order to have a greater impact on their understanding of the choices they make as they get older and how that might negatively impact their future, or even end their life prematurely,” Heuer said.

The event which traditionally seeks to provide a practical education for young teens about the dangers of drugs and alcohol is meant to be an educational experience to deter high schoolers from making disastrous choices, like drinking and driving.

The Teen Maze has in the past included a drunk driving simulator and intense set of scenes meant to give teens the experience of what it would be like to be involved in a DUI wreck with injuries or death, and then a brief court-style experience where they would then finally be thrown behind bars for their actions.

Additionally, local organizations have in the past taken the opportunity to reach out to students about their health and wellness in the Camp Antioch gym with a wide variety of displays.

Those interested in taking part can sign up today to volunteer here.
