Teen in custody after weekend break-in at Victory Baptist Church

Mark Bennett, 17

A teen suspect remained in the Polk County Jail this morning charged with a felony and misdemeanor following a break-in at Victory Baptist Church over the weekend, per Polk County Police reports.

Police arrested Mark Bennett, 17, of a Cedartown address late on Sunday and he remained in custody at the Polk County Jail this morning waiting for a first appearance hearing in order for bond to be set.

He was charged with a felony for second degree burglary, and misdemeanor for theft by taking.

Details were thus far light in a PCPD report filed over the weekend, but they listed at least one snack food item taken in their report. The break-in was reported around 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 22.

He was arrested Sunday night just after 10 p.m.

Additional details are expected to follow as the investigation remains open and active.

Police first noted the break-in over the weekend on the PCPD Facebook page, where they posted photos of Bennett as a potential suspect but still unidentified at the time.

PCPD later updated to say that Bennett was in custody when they found him on Sunday night.

Polk Today has reached out to police officials for more details. Check back as the story continues to develop.
