Look for a trio of students from Cedartown High School to go for the gold during the early morning hours while you might be sleeping as they compete internationally for a debate title.

The CHS International Debate Team members in years past have had the opportunity to travel to Japan thanks to Kimoto Tech, but in recent years due to the pandemic the competition has gone virtual, allowing debates to get underway for all time zones and more opportunities for competition from other countries.

Team members Ava Reaves, Seth Wright, and Nellie Abdul-Rahman early this morning at 3 a.m. defeated their semifinalist challengers, also having knocked out Vietnam and Japan this week as well.

The finals will be held overnight, though who they’ll face wasn’t listed in the update from Cedartown High School’s Facebook page.

They’re one of the last two of 11 teams to take part this year in the 7th annual Parliamentary Debate World Congress.

Here’s the previous posting from CHS:

Congratulations to the CHS International Debate Team! They are currently in the 7th annual Parliamentary Debate World Congress and have earned a spot in the semi-finals, the top four out of 11 different teams and countries. This week, they have defeated Vietnam and Japan and will go on to debate Friday morning to qualify for the finals! This is the furthest CHS has ever advanced! Congratulations to Ava Reaves, Seth Wright, and Nellie Abdul-Rahman.
