Concert goers didn’t mind the humidity or threat of rain at Peek Park on Saturday evening as Southland Soul was the first band to play on a new stage for city events and opened the 2021 Summer Concert Series.

A delay in the start of the show meant that music didn’t fill the park until around 8 p.m. on Saturday evening, but fans of the series returning after a 2021 hiatus took the opportunity while waiting to enjoy food for sale from Rudy’s and Bulldawgs Gourmet Hotdogs.

Southland Soul opened the Summer Concert Series when a move of the event from Holloway Park downtown to Peek Park in 2019 marked the launch of the new event series. The pandemic forced the city to forego the series in 2020.

With this year’s return to the schedule also marked the first use of the city’s new portable stage, providing bands with a proper place to setup for the concert and for the city to use during other events throughout the year.

Check out photos above in the slideshow from Saturday, and feel free to share additional ones to kevin@polk.today to add for everyone to enjoy.

The 2021 Summer Concert Series is being sponsored by Peach State Ford and the City of Cedartown.
