Shooting victim remains in intensive care, suspect remains in jail

One man remains in jail, and another in a hospital bed after the first shooting of 2021 was reported on Tuesday evening.

Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd reported that Mark Harris, 41, remained in intensive care after he was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital after being shot around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at 261 Carter Mountain Road.

Dodd did not yet share information as to why the shooting occurred that saw 74-year-old Richard Wayne Tibbetts arrested on charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife of a commission of or attempts to commit certain crimes. A search of the woods around where the shooting took place on Carter Mountain Road ended just minutes after officers arrived, and no one was harmed when Tibbetts was taken into custody.

Bond has yet to be set for Tibbetts, who remained in the Polk County Jail after he was taken into custody in the woods around the area where the shooting occurred.
