Sheriff: Henderson condition worsens, thoughts and prayers needed more than ever

Sgt. Barry Henderson (right) was admitted to Northside Hospital’s ICU for COVID-19, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the community’s prayers for his quick return to health.

Sheriff Johnny Moats is asking the community to send all their thoughts and prayers out to one of his officers in the hospital with COVID-19 whose condition has worsened.

Sergeant Barry Henderson was admitted to Northside Hospital’s ICU in Atlanta for COVID-19 in recent days, and though earlier in the day the Sheriff’s office had posted a positive update about their officer’s condition, it seems to have worsened in recent hours.

Moats said that Henderson was being placed on a ventilator to help him breathe as he continues to suffer from the symptoms caused by COVID-19. In the most extreme cases of the virus, patients have difficulty breathing as COVID attacks the lungs.

He’s asking for everyone locally and globally to send their positive prayers and support to Henderson and his family at this time.

Henderson, a veteran of the Sheriff’s office, serves on the Gang Investigation Unit. He one of more than a dozen officers and jailers who have been out with COVID-19 within the department.

Check back for further updates on Sgt. Henderson’s condition as they become available.
