The home owned by Frank and Rebecca Lively on Jones Street is one of the several stops for those who participated in the 2023 Rockmart Tour of Homes for the holidays. Here’s the full history they provided for this year’s tour:
We purchased the Jones Avenue house in June 2022 from Annette Hawkins, the last surviving family member who lived in the house. The home was built in the early 1900s.
The house needed extensive foundation repair due to termite damage which resulted in us not being able to keep the original hardwood floors. The house has 12-foot beadboard walls and ceilings. We are not sure when the ceilings were lowered to 9 feet and the sheetrock was put on. We did a remodel to every room of the house but trying to keep as much of the original as possible.
The house had a slate roof but after a hailstorm hit in Rockmart, the green metal was installed.
The little house on the property was built in 1947 for the owner’s mother after the passing of her husband. It was in pretty bad shape after a tree fell on the roof and years of rain getting inside. We are currently using it for storage after repairs were made.
One of my favorite places at the house is the 36-foot long front porch which is so nice to sit with family and friends.
As one exits the house by the back door they will notice a chart on the wall. It was cut from our former house garage wall. 19 years of our grandchildren’s growth could not be left behind.
This year’s Rockmart Tour of Homes organized by the Rotary Club of Polk County raised money for the Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center in Polk County.
