Rockmart pitcher Ty Floyd college-bound after no deal in MLB Draft

One local talent who had potential prospects with the Major Leagues will instead honor his commitment to stay in school.

Rockmart pitching phenom Ty Floyd elected to keep his scholarship commitment to Louisiana State University during the Major League Draft, and will be joining the Tigers on the campus in Baton Rouge this fall.

He said he continues to be thankful for the chance to play college ball.

“LSU has always been a dream for me. I never knew just how bad I wanted to go there until I had the opportunity to sign last night,” Floyd said. “I plan to work hard at LSU, get my education, and hopefully be a MLB prospect again in 2023.”

Floyd put up good numbers during a shortened season with Rockmart, and in 2019 was part of the team’s championship run that saw the Jackets go all the way to the final game before falling short and having to settle as runner’s up. He was also named Player of the Year by the Georgia Dugout Club for Class AA.
