Rockmart High School football players put in an extra hour of time for strength and conditioning this past Thursday evening, but they weren’t in the weight room.

Instead, they were out providing their muscles to ensure that the Polk School District’s food distribution program at Van Wert Elementary went smoothly.

Players volunteered their time on the evening of June 17 to help with the weekly program of providing food to students through the summer months – including gallons of milk and this past Thursday watermelons for each youth.

The food distribution program continues on Thursdays through the summer break from 5 to 6 p.m. at both Van Wert Elementary School and at Cedartown High School.

So far, more than 15,000 meals have been distributed this summer since the program started in the past weeks.
