REPORT: Woman uses purse as weapon, makes death threat

Melissa Elaine Jones

A woman was denied bond on a felony and misdemeanor charge after she used her purse to assault a relative and later threatened to kill them in their sleep, according to a PCPD report.

Melissa Elaine Jones, 45, of a Cedartown-area address, was booked into custody on Tuesday night, September 10, after her account of events did not match up with those of the victim and a witness.

They told officers that Jones had gotten “mouthy,” was told to leave, and when she didn’t then “swung (Jones’) purse at (the victim) in attempts to hit (the victim) with it.”

“Jones then told (the victim) that she would kill her in her sleep,” the report added after the attempted assault.

When asked, the report noted that Jones claimed she made the threat while angry with the victim.

Jones was taken into custody without further incident on a charge of terroristic threats and acts and simple assault.

She remains in custody as of this posting at the Polk County Jail.
