REPORT: Woman took car warming up to “go to store”

Rockmart Police took a woman into custody after she told officers after she was in custody that she took a car from a residence on Jones Street to “run to the store,” according to report.

Officers arrested Cynthia B Fowler, 62, after the owners of the car pointed out that it had just pulled up to the store after it was taken early Thursday morning, November 9.

The owners had started the 2015 Kia Soul to warm it up during cold mornings as part of a routine during the past days, and they reported that Fowler had watched them do this several times.

Fowler was pulled out of the car by police and taken into custody immediately. Officers noted that they had previous run-ins with Fowler and knew her on sight.

When asked why she took the car, Fowler told police that “her friend had told her to take the vehicle so she could go to the store.” The friend had additionally told Fowler the keys were in the car.

Fortunately for the owners, the car was undamaged and nothing inside was missing.

Fowler was charged with felony theft by taking. She was booked into the Polk County Jail where she remained on a $5,000 bond as of this posting.
