REPORT: Two jailed during fall break week for fight

Cedartown Police arrested two men after a fight as both wanted to press charges against the other during a late September altercation, according to reports.

Larry Ray Eric Welchel, 46, and Tracy Dwight Watkins, 28, both of Cedartown addresses, were both booked into the Polk County Jail on multiple charges on Tuesday, September 26, after Cedartown Police were called out to a fight complaint at a North Cave Spring Street address.

Per the report, they found Welchel at the residence where they were dispatched, while Watkins had fled. Officers heard out Welchel and other witnesses, who reported that Watkins had instigated the fight over a Sprite being drunk by someone at the residence.

Welchel attempted to calm Watkins down in his version of events, and was struck several times in the face and though he had a taser, he claimed not to have used it.

Police found Watkins while others were being questioned, and heard his version of events where he claimed he was tased during the altercation.

Officers also noted that a child was present during the fight.

Both men wanted to press charges against the other, and so police took both men into custody.

Per the Cedartown Police, Welchel was later admitted after processing at the jail into Polk Medical Center due to the injuries he sustained during the fight.

Welchel’s bond was set at $14,000 and he was released from custody. He was charged with a felony for aggravated assault, plus misdemeanors for simple battery and cruelty to children in the third degree.

Watkins remain in custody on a $14,000 bond as well. He faces felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor cruelty to children in the third degree and simple battery.
