A Tallapoosa man tried to get away on a local golf course during a chase ultimately went nowhere and landed him in custody facing multiple charges, according to Polk County Police reports.
Chadric Alan Pennington, 20, of a Tallapoosa address, was booked into custody early Saturday morning, May 18, by PCPD after they finally caught up with him on the links at Cedar Valley Golf Course after he ditched his truck and passenger.
Per the report, Pennington was initially spotted by officers traveling northbound on Highway 27 North near Highway 100 going more than 90 mph in a 55 mph zone. A first chase ensued, and officers kept up with him for a while but lost him as he turned off into a parking lot near the turnoff onto South Main Street at the southern end of the Highway 27 bypass.
The officer who initially began the chase circled back off of South Main Street, spotted what appeared to be Pennington’s truck in the parking lot of the gas station near the intersection, and tried to conduct a traffic stop.
Instead, Pennington got away again around the gas station almost hitting the PCPD patrol vehicle, knocked over a mailbox, went behind Petro’s and made it onto Cedar Valley Golf Club’s property before he ditched the truck after it struck a tree, a passenger inside the vehicle and fled onto the fairway.
Police ultimately caught up with Pennington and took him into custody. The passenger was also taken into custody and released without incident or charges.
When officers searched the truck before it was towed early Saturday, they reported finding a “one hitter” pipe and a Black and Mild cigar. Since Pennington is 20, he is also expecting charges for underage possession of tobacco products.
Pennington remained in custody as of this posting at the Polk County Jail on felony and misdemeanor charges awaiting bond to be set.
Those charges included felony DUI, and misdemeanors for speeding in excess of maximum limits, driving while license suspended or revoked, failure to use signal, fleeing/attempting to elude police, and obstruction of law enforcement officers.
