Ericka Marie Deans

Rockmart Police briefly lost and then caught back up to a woman with a warrant out of Missouri and took her into custody during a Friday evening arrest, according to reports.

Ericka Marie Deans, 39, of 109 Morgan St., Rockmart, was first spotted by a Rockmart Police Officer on Friday evening at 8:35 p.m. while he was on patrol on South Piedmont Avenue and was processing a tag when the state and national criminal database came back with an active warrant for the driver.

The officer attempted to catch up to Deans, but lost sight of the truck around College Street. A quick search for Deans’ address provided the officer with likely whereabouts, and he and officers from Polk County Police traveled to Morgan Street to see if she had returned home.

Police found the truck parked behind the Morgan Street residence and Deans standing next to a fire pit when police arrived to serve the warrant.

Deans told police she had “already been arrested on the warrant around a month ago” but officers checked and found the warrant out of Cooper County, Missouri was still active.

Police took Deans into custody without further incident and she was taken to the Polk County Jail where she was booked for the warrant and a fugitive from justice charge.

She remained in jail as of this posting without bond set on the charge.
