The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate the death Wednesday of a Rockmart man who was working roadside in Chattooga County as a contractor and struck by a truck.

Per the GSP’s Post 38 in Rome, they continue to investigate the fatal traffic crash that saw Garrett Christian, 29, of Rockmart, late Wednesday afternoon.

Christian was directing traffic while another employee roadside was backing up a truck and was struck and knocked to the ground. His injuries were fatal.

GSP is still investigating.

On September 29, 2021, at 4:19 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 38 Rome was requested to investigate a fatal traffic crash involving a pedestrian on GA 1 in Chattooga County. 

An electrical contractor worker walked onto Georgia 1 to block traffic in the outside southbound lane. Another employee was backing a flatbed truck onto Georgia 1 from the shoulder. 

The truck hit Mr. Garrett Christian, age 29 of Rockmart, Georgia, knocking him to the ground.  Mr. Williams sustained fatal injuries. 

The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is assisting with this investigation. 

No information has yet been posted about funeral arrangements for Christian. Check back for additional details as they become available.
