REPORT: Pair charged after faking lease, living in trailer illegally

What started as a burglary call into Polk County Police ultimately took an unexpected turn as forged documents got a couple in trouble with the law for taking over a trailer to live in without permission from the real owners.

The Polk County Police’s involvement in the case surrounding the arrest of Ryan Adelia Thompson, 44, of Rockmart and Jason Lamar Proctor, 34, of Aragon when they were confronted by police a second time at a Tallapoosa Highway trailer and taken into custody midweek by officers. A third booking is expected for Thomas Wyatt Spires, 44, of a Cedartown address, was also made when warrants were taken out obstruction and party to a crime charges.

The whole incident began with a burglary call on Friday, September 8 to the same Tallapoosa Highway residence where they found Thompson and Proctor, claiming they had just moved in after a neighbor noticed activity at the residence that should have been empty since the owner was now living in a nursing home.

At the time, the officer reporting the incident noted that he could not find anything illegal happening since the documents seemed to be in order, Thompson had a key to the trailer and she had called “the landlord” during the encounter with officers, who claimed to be the nephew of the owner.

Then a call on Wednesday, September 13 from the actual power of attorney for the owner to 911 reporting that the pair were living in the trailer without permission gave officers a reason to go back out and do something about the situation.

The pair living in the trailer ultimately admitted that the man who claimed to be the nephew renting the home was someone else. They were additionally arrested for possession of methamphetamine and criminal trespass at the time.

Polk County Police followed up with Thompson and Proctor the next day at the jail in interviews, and found out the greater scope of what happened. The reporting officer noted that Thompson admitted to lying about who the landlord was for the home, and that Thompson knew when she spoke with police the lease was a fake, and the “call to the landlord” was essentially staged.

Proctor told police that he had no idea that Thompson and Spires had done anything wrong in the situation and “it was all legitimate.”

The report noted this as well: “I asked Jason (Proctor) why he didn’t find it odd that he was living somewhere with Ryan (Thompson), who he’s been with for a year, with furniture he’s never seen and pictures of people he didn’t know. He stated that Ryan told him that they could throw it away.”

Proctor remained in custody on felony charges of obstruction of law enforcement officers and possession of methamphetamine. He also faces two misdemeanor criminal trespass charges as well. His bond was set at $6,000.

Thompson was charged the same, she also remains in custody and her bond was set at $6,000 as well.
