REPORT: One arrested for returning fire in suspect drive by shooting

Jatavion Jariq Stocks

Polk County Police charged a man after he was alleged to have returned fire at a vehicle speeding by a store suspected of being involved in a drive-by shooting earlier in the month, according to reports.

Jatavion Jariq Stocks, 19, of a Rockmart-area address, was booked into custody and later released on bond after he was accused of taking shots at a vehicle speeding by on Morgan Valley Road in front of a convenience store.

Per the report, Stocks was one of four individuals who were standing outside the store when shots were suspected of being fired. Stocks took cover behind a vehicle and based on video surveillance footage they found he shot back four times.

Police were able to identify one of the group, which ultimately ended with Stocks being found and taken into custody on Wednesday, October 9 by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Shell casings were also found in the parking lot near where video footage showed Stocks hiding behind the vehicle.

Police didn’t find evidence of the store receiving any damage during the incident or anyone being injured.

They were unable to figure out who was behind the wheel of the vehicle speeding by and allegedly firing toward the group due to how fast the vehicle went by the store in camera footage.

Stocks was charged with misdemeanors for reckless conduct and discharge of firearms on or near public highway or street.

He was later released on a $4,000 bond.
