A man faces a serious animal cruelty charge after Cedartown Police say he refused to take his dog to the veterinarian to be treated after it was struck by a car in late July, according to reports.
Officers took out warrants at the time for William Grady Luke, 51, of a Cedartown address, when he fled from a Slusser Avenue address and refused to cooperate with Polk County Animal Control or the Cedartown Police.
He told officers as well that he wasn’t going to surrender the dog or tell anyone where it was located if he was going to be arrested.
“Over the phone Luke did state he did not take the dog to the vet due to not having the money for the vet and that he was not going to surrender the dog to Animal Control,” the report stated.
Police ultimately got the warrant for his arrest on July 31.
Luke was picked up by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on the warrant on Monday, August 26.
He was booked into custody on a felony charge of aggravated cruelty to animals and later released on a $5,000 bond.
