A Cedartown man who was spotted by officers and known to have a warrant was later charged with drug possession after he attempted to bring suspected methamphetamine into the Polk County Jail, according to reports.
Polk County Police took Artie Lavelle Price, 52, into custody on Wednesday afternoon, December 11, when they spotted him on South Main Street in Cedartown. The arresting officer who reported the incident noted they knew for certain he had a warrant for his arrest when stopped, and he was detained until the warrant was confirmed.
Price was given a chance to tell officers that he had drugs on him before going into jail custody, but told police at the time he had no contraband in the layers of clothing he had on at the time.
When he was searched at the jail, deputies found a bag of suspected meth in his clothes.
Additional warrants were then taken out for Price for felonies for meth possession and crossing the state/county guard lines with contraband.
He remained in custody as of this posting on the warrant, plus the two additional charges on the trio of felonies. A bond for $10,000 was set for his release.
