A chase that began on Morton Springs Road after a man failed to pull over for officers was ultimately arrested and found with a few pills and more than $6,000 in cash, per a Polk County Police report.
Police arrested Earl Shane Slaton, 36, of 5540 Fosters Mill Road SW, Cave Spring, when the chase finally ended at Pine Bower Baptist Church on Thursday around 6:34 p.m.
The report stated that Slaton was spotted on Highway 27 failing to maintain his lane, and gave an “inadequate turn signal” when he was going onto Morton Springs Road. Officers watched Slaton cross over the yellow line “2-3 more times” and they believed he might be under the influence and attempted to pull him over.
“We then activated the emergency lights & sirens on the patrol vehicle. The driver ignored the emergency lights and began screaming and throwing his hands up in the air,” the report stated.
They continued to follow Slaton, but at the posted speed limit onward on Morton Springs Road, then on Mildred Drive, back onto Highway 27, a right onto Judkin Mill Road, left on Johnson Lake Road, and a right onto Pine Bower Road until finally stopping him at Pine Bower Baptist Church.
He opened the door and put his hands up, and was “escorted to the ground” before being arrested.
While searching Slaton and the vehicle, they found two cell phones, two pills identified as Aprazolam and a tablet of suspect Ecstasy, and $6,240.90 in cash.
PCPD had his truck towed, and carried Slaton onward to jail. Evidence found in Slaton’s vehicle was turned over to the Drug Task Force.
Slaton remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting without bond set on felony charges of Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. He also faces misdemeanor charges of improper lane change/usage, DUI – Drugs Less Safe, Failure to Maintain Lane and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police.
