Report: Man injured after .22 falls out of pocket while riding on dirt bike, shot in chest when revolver goes off

A man was airlifted to the hospital with a gunshot wound after his revolver fell out of his pocket while riding a dirt bike on Saturday afternoon, according to Polk County Police.

Chief Kenny Dodd reported that he was on scene on Saturday after the incident occurred and filed the paperwork following the injury of Andy Lee Bryant, 42, of an Irwin Street address.

Initially, officers arrived on scene and found Bryant injured with a gunshot to his chest and conflicting reports of exactly how it happened.

On Sunday, police were able to clear up what occurred after a review of body camera footage and the initial encounter with Bryant after his injury.

Per police, Bryant had been riding the dirt bike on Irwin Street and came upon a hill at Powell Street, made a jump, and had a .22 caliber Ruger revolver in his pocket.

During the jump, the gun came out of his pocket and flew forward and hit the ground and went off. The round went into his upper right chest before he planted the dirt bike into a lot and ran toward a nearby home where witnesses called for help.

On Saturday afternoon, he was airlifted after immediate treatment from Redmond EMS to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for treatment of his wounds.
