Report: Man found with marijuana, meth during a traffic stop for tail and tag lights

Jimmy Phillip Beck

A Cedartown man was released on bond after he was jailed after methamphetamine and marijuana were found during a traffic stop over the weekend.

Jimmy Phillip Beck, 30, of 471 Branch Road, Cedartown, was pulled over by Polk County Police on June 25 at 3:15 a.m. after the reporting officer stated that the truck’s tail light lenses were cracked, and the tag was obstructed.

Beck told the officer that he had no idea of the issues with his truck, and was on his way back from “raccoon hunting” with his father.

Police reported they smelled marijuana coming from inside the truck cab, and waited for another officer to arrive before conducting a search.

Their search found “a gold smoking device containing raw marijuana” along with “a camouflage zipper bag” that police reported contained a set of digital scales, a bag containing suspected meth, a glass pipe and additional marijuana.

Officers detained Beck and he was read his rights before telling police the bag wasn’t his, but a passenger who had left it earlier in the day.

He additionally told police that he doesn’t use meth, and police advised him he could dispute the charges during his court date.

Police charged Beck with felonies for possession of methamphetamine and possession of tools for the commission of a crime, along with misdemeanors for tag lights required, improper use of a dealer tag, less than an ounce of marijuana possession, and possession and use of drug-related objects.

Beck was released on a $7,100 bond after his arrest over the weekend.
