REPORT: Man found asleep behind wheel on Wimberly Hill Road arrested for DUI

A Cedartown-area man was jailed on a DUI charge after police found him asleep behind the wheel in the middle of the road, according to reports.

Polk County Police arrested Steven Chase Phillips, 26, of a Sanders Cemetery Road address in the Cedartown area, was taken into custody by the Polk County Police after they finally woke him up when they arrived on the scene.

Reports noted that initially officers were called out to Wimberly Hill Road when the car was reported in the road around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police found Phillips passed out behind the wheel, the car in drive and his foot on the brake. They attempted to put in park, and he finally woke up and pulled the emergency brake.

Police tried again to get the vehicle out of drive after getting Phillips out of the car, but were unsuccessful for some reason.

He was searched and a small amount of marijuana was found in his pocket. Phillips told police he had smoked marijuana hours before, tried to get home but fell asleep in the middle of the road. The report stated that he had “slurred speech, unstable balance and didn’t know where he was” when he was questioned by officers.

Police took him into custody without further incident, and he was booked on a DUI – combo of any combination of A1/A2/A3.

He was released on a $2,112 bond.
