A Alabama man told police that a Cedartown-area man took his checkbooks, racked up five figures worth of stolen money and now doesn’t have anything to show for it as the suspect in the case is now in custody.
Tyrin Kane Golden, 23, of a Cedartown-area address, was arrested by Polk County Police at Chapman’s Shopette where Golden had been cashing the checks from at least the time he took two checkbooks from the victim on April 9.
Per the report, the victim had kept the checkbooks in his car and was visiting a female friend when Golden is alleged to have taken them and then began forging checks.
The victim provided the copies of the forged checks to officers back in mid-July when reporting the fraudulent activity to police. Officers who took the report noted that Golden was confronted by the victim and he was alleged to have confessed, admitted he didn’t have any money to pay back the $10,000 in checks he forged, and if charges were pressed he would turn himself into authorities.
Police took the report on July 11, and took warrants out for Golden’s arrest.
Officers finally found him late Monday night during a traffic stop not far from Chapman’s Shopette. A vehicle he was a passenger in was pulled over at the Gulf Gas Station on South Main Street by Polk County Police around 10:30 p.m. on August 1.
Police ran his information and found he had the pair of warrants for his arrest, and took him into custody without further incident.
Golden remained in custody without bond set on felony charges of theft by receiving stolen property and third degree forgery.
