A homeowner told police he woke up this past Saturday morning to find a running – and pulled apart – Honda Accord in his backyard during the holiday weekend, according to a Polk County Police report.
Robert Lee Myers, 59, of 520 Lee Drive, Acworth, was jailed on misdemeanor charges of loitering or prowling, criminal trespass, suspended registration and no license on person after he was found by officers still inside his car asleep on Saturday morning and took him into custody without any further incident once cuffed and in a squad car.
Police reported they got a call from the homeowner – who met officers in the driveway with his revolver – after he called 911 and reported the car in his backyard. Police found the Accord’s interior had been pulled out and strewn across the backyard. Once they began talking to Myers, a strange tale unfolded.
He told police he believed he was in the 400 block of Maple Street in Rockmart – three miles in the opposite direction – and that he was trying to find a woman in the area. Police initially couldn’t find his shoes, but looked around and located them at the back door of the garage, noting that the side door of the house had been opened as well.
Officers also noted the Honda had been involved in a wreck of some kind, and Myers reported that he had been involved in a collision around the Raceway at Highway 113 in Rockmart, and the “voices in the radio” told him to keep driving. He also told police he arrived at the Brock Road residence around 3 a.m. Police noted he seemed disoriented while being questioned about what happened the previous night.
Police further questioned the homeowner they found in the driveway and he noted that he found the car in the backyard around 7:20 a.m., and had been unable to locate the owner of the boots he found at the garage’s back door.
Officers never found Myers license, and also charged him for being on the property and a suspended registration for the Honda.
He remained in jail as of this posting on a $3,000 bond.
