REPORT: Driver hit parked cars in DUI wreck on Thursday night

James Adam Murray

An underage driver from Aragon was booked on multiple charges including driving under the influence after he told officers he hit a parked vehicle attempting to avoid a deer, Polk County Police reports stated.

PCPD arrested James Adam Murray, 19, of an Aragon address late in the evening on Thursday, August 15, after the wreck occurred on North Bellview Road.

Officers were called out to investigate a crash after Murray ran into a parked car on North Bellview Road, which caused that to hit another. Murray told police he was attempting to avoid a deer that ran out in the road when he struck the vehicle.

When a search of his car to see if the airbags went off was conducted, police found three “open containers” on the floor and questioned Murray about whether he had anything to drink. Murray denied it, but when prompted to give a breath sample on the scene, he blew a .162 BAC (blood alcohol content.)

Police did not note what kind of alcohol they found on the vehicle in their report.

He was taken into custody without further incident and before being booked was checked out at Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center to ensure he wasn’t injured in the wreck.

Polk County Police charged Murray with misdemeanors for DUI – alcohol less safe, failure to maintain lane and three counts of open container violation.

He remained in custody as of this posting on a $3,220 bond.
