Polk County Police took a man into custody on Wednesday afternoon after a domestic incident on multiple charges following a heated argument with a family member, per reports.
Marquis Trevis Peek Smith, 23, of a Springdale Road address, was arrested after police were called to his and another family member’s residence on Wednesday, September 28, during the lunch hour for a domestic dispute.
Per PCPD reports, Peek Smith told officers he was just returning a laptop when asked to give it back to the relative’s room when he bumped a picture frame and knocked it off the ground, but when the relative was asked they told a different story.
The victim told officers Peek Smith threw the laptop down on their bed when he was asked to return it, smacked it, then knocked several pictures over and a glass sculpture.
Peek Smith also pushed the victim down when they were calling 911 for help. Peek Smith claimed during the argument that he was going to gather his things and leave.
After they heard this side of the story, Peek Smith was taken into custody. He struggled with officers while being cuffed, but finally settled down and was taken to jail without further incident.
Peek Smith remained in custody as of this posting on a felony bench warrant and misdemeanor charges of simple battery, simple battery against a person who is 65 years or older or is pregnant at the time of the offense, and two counts of obstructing law enforcement officers.
