A man who was reported to have waved a gun around was arrested by Rockmart Police at gunpoint and charged with felonies for an incident on Tuesday night, according to reports.
Officers arrested Paul Omar Escutia, 27, of a Cedartown address on Tuesday night not long after 9:30 p.m. when reports came in he had a handgun and had been pointing it at others along with a laser sight.
Police arrived at Monarca’s in Sycamore Court and found Escutia inside of a 1997 Ford Ranger, and conducted a felony takedown at gunpoint due to the reports they received from 911.
He was taken into custody without further incident.
When officers got everything calmed down, they began to investigate and learned more about what prompted the call to Monarca’s. Per the report, witnesses and a victim told officers that Escutia had been at the bar and was “harassing other customers,” and at one point reached for the pistol in his waistband. When the manager asked him to leave, he went into the parking lot.
The victim added that when he went to leave the restaurant, Escutia was waiting outside and pointed the handgun and laser sight directly at his chest, and another person witnessed what happened.
Police recovered Escutia’s handgun and placed it into evidence after he was arrested.
Escutia remains in the Polk County Jail as of this posting without bond set on felony charges of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, along with a misdemeanor charge for public drunkenness.
