The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office announced that a chase that began in Alabama ended without any injuries or property damage after suspects reached speeds of over 100 miles per hour during the early morning incident.
In a release from the agency, they reported the following:
In the early hours of Sunday, June 11, 2021, 911 Dispatch advised Haralson County Sheriff’s deputies that Cleburne County, and St Clair County, Alabama, were in a high-speed chase with a Chevy Malibu heading east on I-20 heading toward our jurisdiction. The chase started in St. Clair County, Alabama, with an attempted traffic stop for traffic violations.
Sheriff Deputies and Tallapoosa Police Department went out to the interstate and set up spike strips to attempt to stop the vehicle. Spike strips were deployed and one struck the right front tire of the suspect vehicle. Deputies took the lead in the chase that was exceeding 100 MPH. Due to the successful deployment of stop sticks, the vehicle did slow to speeds around 80 MPH before the right front tire blew out.
The vehicle came to a stop around mile marker 7 on I-20, ending an approximately 60 mile chase. Deputies ordered the occupants out of the vehicle and with the assistance of Tallapoosa Police Department and Alabama units, three males were arrested.
During a search of the vehicle, firearms were located and taken into evidence. The driver, who is 17 years old, was charged with multiple traffic violations, obstruction, and possession of a firearm by a juvenile.
The front-seat passenger, who is also a minor, was charged with obstruction and possession of a firearm by a juvenile. The back seat passenger was charged with obstruction.
The firearms were taken into evidence and the vehicle was towed. Due to the proper deployment of spike strips, there was no damage to property or vehicles in Haralson County.
“I am pleased with the response from my Deputies and the Tallapoosa Police Department. It is essential that our Departments work together in our county and this was a great example of that teamwork. These offenders, traveling at such a high rate of speed, posed a danger to anyone traveling on I-20 and they are now off the roadways, thanks to the teamwork and fast response of the Sheriff’s Office and Tallapoosa Police Department.”, states Sheriff Stacy Williams.
