RELEASE: Cedartown customer bills will show increase as cost of operations climb

CEDARTOWN – Residents who receive utility services from the City of Cedartown can expect to see an increase in charges beginning in August.

City Manager Edward Guzman said the increase is necessary as the cost of operations to provide essential services continue to climb throughout the nation.

Residential customers who typically receive a current minimum bill of $45.66 can expect to see their bills increase to $49.86.

Much of the increase comes from the City’s contracted curbside trash and commercial dumpster service. Trash service within the City limits is provided through a contract with Green for Life, formerly Waste Industries.

The service least affected by operations cost is water service, as it is far less expensive to provide clean water to residents as it is to pump and treat sewage.

The increase averages out to $4.20 on a minimum bill. About one-third of the
City’s residents are charged a minimum bill, meaning those households use no more
than 300 cubic feet of water per month (2,244 gallons).
