PSD reports pair of teachers now have COVID-19

Two teachers from Rockmart High School have now tested positive for COVID-19, according to Superintendent Laurie Atkins in the latest report of cases found in the school.

She said in a statement that the teachers informed Rockmart High Principal Robyn Teems of their positive status early Friday evening, and the district immediately informed the Department of Public Health Northwest Georgi Public Health District officials.

“The Department of Public Health reached out and contacted the two teachers for contact tracing,” According to DPH, and thankfully, the teachers have been and extremely cautious. They have worn masks and face shields, as well as maintained a 6ft distance from students. No students were at risk for exposure.”

Atkins added that both teacher’s classrooms are being electrostatically fogged to clean after them.

These are the second report of cases in the Polk School District. Atkins previously reported two cases in students at Cedartown High School.

Both teachers went into quarantine. For their privacy, Polk.Today is not releasing their names.
