Development is coming to Canal Street, but what a new project might be is still up in the air.
Property owner Larry Martin said workers are clearing an area of the 54+ acres of land that encompasses a strip of land along North Second Street, and then a wide area from Sheboygan Paint down close to the intersection of Adamson and Canal Street.
Clearing has been going on for the past several days on the property, but thus far Martin said that he has no comment about what might be coming to the land.
For the moment, he said he “wishes to be prepared” for what might come in 2025.

The parcel does include the Canal Street Convenience Center and the Canal Street Silver Comet Trailhead, the westward point where walkers and riders can get on heading back into Cedartown or outward toward the Alabama State Line and the Chief Ladiga Trail.
Martin has owned the land since 1994, and paid just $165,000 for it at the time according to Polk County Tax Assessor records. It is now worth more nearly triple that figure at $487,000+ in value.
Additional developments are expected on the land. Check back for more as it becomes available.
