Polk Safe Kids receives car seat donations

A positive piece of news from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office will be something that new parents will especially want to know about in the coming days.

The Sheriff’s Office Coalition of Polk Safe Kids received 30 new Graco car seats this past week, with the goal of making sure they go into the hands of parents who need them to help keep their young children safe in the back seat.

They are set to be dispersed to families throughout Polk County, with some requirements.

Families will have to complete an educational course for proper installation by the Sheriff’s Office’s trained car seat technicians.

Per Chief Depty Jonathan Blackmon, the car seats were granted and delivered after Cpl. Rachel Haddix completed the documentation necessary and in a timely manner to receive this Graco in-kind donation for Safe Kids Polk County. He said the value of the 30 new car seats is $6,119.68.

“We want thank Graco, Newell Brands Co. and Safe Kids Georgia for helping to protect the children of our county,” he said.

Edit: here’s more info on how to get a car seat.

Call the Sheriff’s office Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 770-749-2901 to be put on the list for their monthly educational classes. The classes are free to attend and participants receive a seat at the end once an individual can show they know the proper the way to install it.
