Daniel Jacob O’Neal

A wreck at the intersection of West Church Street and Rome Street on Friday evening prompted the arrest of one of the drivers, according to Rockmart Police reports.

Daniel Jacob O’Neal, 20, of 9 Hammertime Road, Cedartown, was jailed on multiple charges after he was involved in a collision at around 8 p.m. on Friday, March 26 following a two-vehicle wreck.

He remains in jail with no bond set following the weekend.

O’Neal was reported by police to be driving on a limited permit due to a super speeder ticket previously, and when officers began to further investigate the situation they believed they smelled marijuana on his person.

Police reported that O’Neal admitted to smoking prior to the wreck, and after conducting a field sobriety test, officers determined that O’Neal was indeed high.

After a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers found a bag of marijuana, a container and a “green smoking device.”

O’Neal was taken into custody and later his blood was drawn at the jail for further proof of his drug use.

He remained in custody on charges for felony driving while license suspended or revoked and misdemeanor charges of violation of driving restrictions, driving under the influence of drugs, possession of marijuana, two counts possession and use of drug related objects, and a failure to maintain lane charge.
