POLICE: Uninvited shirtless man jailed on loitering charge

Tony Aubrey Merritt

A man who wasn’t wanted at a house ended up in custody after he told officers he only wanted to “talk” to the neighbor who complained, according to reports.

Police arrested Tony Aubrey Merritt, 63, of a Cedartown-area address, after he tried to explain to police that he had only gone over to the neighbor’s for conversation, but also admitted that he went all the way up to the front door to wiggle the doorknob as well.

The neighbor told police that he came out without a shirt and khaki pants onto her residence and that every time Merritt comes over that they feared for their life.

Police were provided pictures of the latest incident that took place on Thursday, July 18 during the early evening hours.

An officer took Merritt into custody without incident. He was charged with loitering or prowling and later released on a $1,400 bond.
