A pair claiming they were coming to see a relative at a Potash Road residence ended up in custody when their stories didn’t match up with what those who know the property owners told officers, according to a Polk County Police report.
Megan Ryan Sneed, 35, and Braxton Lee Johnson, 20, both of Cedartown-area addresses, were arrested after officers pulled up on the pair after watching them get out at a Potash Road address up the road from where they were caught trespassing.
Per the report, an officer stopped the pair around 10:45 a.m. on Saturday when they got out of an SUV that left and went back toward Highway 278. The pair stayed, waited around for a while, and then Johnson took off and went down the road. The officer – who sat and watched from where they got out – noticed that Sneed was still on the porch and went up to knock on the door.
Sneed claimed that her “Aunt Betty” was at the hair salon and they were waiting, since she was supposed to be at the house at 10 a.m. to help clean. She came without any cleaning supplies, the officer asked about this and Sneed claimed they were going to use “Aunt Betty’s” supplies. Sneed additionally claims that “Aunt Betty” is elderly, doesn’t drive, and she couldn’t provide a phone number for officers to contact her about Sneed waiting outside.
Police however did notice the “newer looking SUV or similar looking vehicle parked behind the house.”
The stories also didn’t quite match up when Johnson returned and spoke to another officer who arrived, and claimed they were visiting “grandma.”
The situation went further against the pair when police noted a relative of the owners of the Potash Road home drove up and told police that the pair “are not supposed to be there.” Then a second family member drove up and confirmed who lives at the Potash Road address.
Police immediately took Johnson and Sneed into custody, and after being read their rights police noted that “both subjects failed to provide a reasonable explanation to being at the unknown residence.”
Sneed and Johnson both remained in custody as of this posting on the single misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass on a $1,400 bond at the Polk County Jail.
