Police seeking driver involved in afternoon chase in Polk County

Police officials are asking drivers to be on the lookout for a silver Jeep Compass with Louisiana plates that was involved in an afternoon high speed chase around Polk County that occurred this afternoon.

Sheriff Johnny Moats confirmed that his deputies along with other agencies were involved in the chase that sent officers speeding across the county trying to stop the vehicle that ultimately got away.

The vehicle matching the description of one being driven by a local man with warrants out against him was first spotted in the Collard Valley Road area by a Polk County Police officer who was already involved in a traffic stop and called in a report by radio.

Polk County Sheriffs deputies eventually got behind the Compass and tried to stop it, at one point the driver tried to ram a Sheriff’s Office vehicle.

Monts said the driver reached speeds topping 100 mph at one point during the chase, and police were unable to catch back up and called off the chase.

Additional charges are expected against the driver if they are able to locate him again.
