
Polk County Police got into a chase with a Cedartown man that came to an end in a front yard, and were able to recover a handgun tossed out in a backpack and later recovered it thanks to someone who saw the chase and later found it.
Officers arrested Timothy Lamar Jackson, 30 of 303 N. Martiele St., Cedartown, on multiple charges on Sunday, April 10, after he was first being spotted driving erratically around the Georgia Avenue/Canal Street area, and then after police reached the area of Cobb Street, tried to conduct a traffic stop.
When the stop began, one officer got out and another waited momentarily in the car, when Jackson was reported to have put his car back into gear and took off on a chase that speed through Main Street, on West Ellawood Avenue, Fairview Avenue and all the way to Frances Drive when the car came to a halt in front of a Frances Drive residence. Speeds during the chase at one point exceeded 80 mph on residential streets.
Police pulled Jackson out of the car at gunpoint, and took him into custody without further incident once he was cuffed.
Cedartown Police not long after being taken into custody caught up with Polk County officers, who were given a backpack recovered in the area of the chase. Within officers found a black Mini Draco semi-automatic pistol – a Kalashnikov-styled machine pistol chambered in 7.62x39mm.
The report noted that the dash cam from the officer’s chase caught video evidence of the bag being thrown out of the car.
Police per request of the homeowner did note some damage to the grass from the chase’s end.
Jackson was facing a number of charges including failure to maintain lane, no insurance, affixing materials that reduce or increase light tranmission/reflectance of windows/windshield, suspended registration, driving on wrong side of roadway, reckless driving, reckless conduct, speeding in excess of maximum limits, fail to use signal, failure to stop at stop/yield sign, tampering with evidence, littering, seat belt violation, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, receipt, possession or transfer of firearm by convicted felon, and obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers.
His bond was denied.
