POLICE: Florida woman jailed after refusing to leave van on side of road

Tomecia Wykeedra Burt

A Florida woman was taken into custody on a trio of charges after she was believed to be driving under the influence, and was found parked in a van partially in the roadway and refused to get out, per a Polk County Police report.

Police had to bust the window out and pull Tomecia Wykeedra Burt, 50, of a Jacksonville, Florida, address, out of her 2008 Nissan Quest she had parked on the side of Piedmont Highway in Cedartown early Monday morning.

The report stated that 911 got a call about the van from a concerned driver sometime after 1 a.m. because Burt was parked in the roadway on the crest of a hill and could potentially cause a wreck.

When police arrived at 1:23 a.m., they found the van parked along Piedmont Highway in the 2500 block and they sought to try and talk to Burt, who at first refused to identify herself or step out of the van.

Police sought several times to get her to cooperate, but Burt refused to come out and officers believed she was drunk at the time of the incident.

She “began to display passive aggressive behavior by ‘flicking the bird’” at officers and held up her Florida driver’s license at one point during the incident.

Per the report, officers ultimately busted out her window and pulled her out of the van before she was placed in cuffs and taken onward to the Polk County Jail.

Burt remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting on a $4,000 bond on misdemeanor charges of DUI – less safe – drugs, improper parking and obstructing law enforcement officers.
