Police: Argument between cousins leads to shooting

A shooting incident on Memorial Day saw one cousin injured, and another taken to jail according to police.

Detective Brandon Crawford reported that officers responded to Piedmont Highway outside of Cedartown after 911 calls were received by both cousins about the shooting.

Police found Dylan Goddard injured and standing on the passenger side of his Nissan Altima when they arrived at the area of Piedmont Highway and Shiloh Road. They also noticed damage to his car caused by the spray of shotgun pellets.

After questioning Goddard about what happened and calling for medical aid from Redmond EMS, police went to question and later arrested Goddard’s cousin Corey Deaton.

Goddard was taken to an area hospital for treatment and surgery.

Crawford reported that when they arrived at Deaton’s residence on Shiloh Road, they found a shotgun in his kitchen, spent shells next to the steps of his front porch. They took him into custody on charges of aggravated assault, reckless conduct and pointing and aiming a gun at another.

He was released on a $7,000 bond.

Later in the week, he was re-arrested a second time on additional charges of aggravated battery, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain crimes, and criminal damage to property. That charge saw him released on a $10,000 bond as well.
