PCSO: Contract kitchen worker arrested for illicit relationship with inmate

A Cedartown woman remains in custody on bond on a misdemeanor charge after an investigation got underway at the Polk County Sheriffs Office for her illicit affair with an inmate at the facility while she was employed as a contract worker.

Lauren Elizabeth Ashmore, 25, of a Cedartown address, was taken into custody today at the Polk County Courthouse while there to fill out paperwork for another job in court offices and is being held on $5,000 bond for improper sexual conduct.

She remained in custody as of this posting.

Ashmore is reported by Polk County Sheriffs Office personnel to be a third-party contract worker who was hired by the company who runs the kitchen, and developed a relationship with an inmate who was a trustee at the jail working on the kitchen garbage detail.

The relationship was physical on at least two occasions in the kitchen at the jail, the PCSO reported. They also have evidence of their time together after more than 300 phone calls were made to Ashmore’s cell phone from the inmate.

The arrest was made just before Ashmore had planned to fill out employment paperwork at the Polk County Superior Court Clerk’s office at the courthouse in Cedartown. She was never hired by the office, and her arrest came before any process was completed.
