PCPD: Floyd Co. SWAT called in for Saturday night standoff

Suspect taken into custody early Sunday morning, weapon found after search

Jacob Ryan Baker

Polk County Police called in for help when threats of violence by a suspect reported to 911 brought them out to a home over the weekend and got into a standoff with the suspect, officials confirmed.

Officers were called out on Saturday evening, October 5, to a Rockmart-area address on Coots Lake Road after Jacob Ryan Baker, 29, was accused of threatening family members and harming a family pet.

When police arrived, Baker continued making threats and got into a standoff with officers after it was reported he had multiple weapons inside the residence. PCPD called in for help from Floyd County’s SWAT team since it was unknown what he had inside. Warrants were also taken out for his arrest amid a standoff with Baker.

Police ultimately took Baker into custody and took him onward to the Polk County Jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.

A search of the home did turn up a weapon, PCPD reported.

Baker was booked on multiple felony charges included four counts of terroristic threats and acts, a count of aggravated cruelty to animals, a charge of possession of tools for the commission of a crime and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of law enforcement officers.
