Craig Smith Sarah Smith
A pair who had just smoked a joint were pulled over by police for a cracked windshield, and remain in the Polk County Jail today on drug charges.
On Monday around 7:15 p.m., Cedartown Police pulled over Craig and Sarah Smith, both of 23 West Road, Cedartown, in a Lincoln MKZ after the officer noticed that their vehicle had a “starburst crack on the windshield that was bigger than 3″x3″ in size.” When the officer approached the driver, he immediately reported smelling marijuana and that Craig Smith told the officer that “him and the passenger Sarah Smith had smoked a joint.”
Craig also told officers when they asked to search that he had “no drugs in the vehicle” but was found to have suspected methamphetamine in an Altoids tin in the center console, and more of the suspected drug in a can of Camel Snus. Police also found a knife and a BB gun pistol as well.
Sarah Smith said the drugs belonged to Craig, and was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest from the Sheriff’s Office.
Both were taken to the Polk County Jail where they remained without any bond set.
During a search at the jail during the booking process, police found Craig Smith with a “tube of a pink crystal-like substance” in his boot, and a “green leafy substance that appeared to be marijuana” in his waistband. The suspected meth in the vehicle was tested by police and came back with a positive result for the drug.
Craig Smith, 39, was charged with felonies for probation violation, possession of methamphetamine and crossing the state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, or drugs without consent. He also faces misdemeanor charges of windshield requirements and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
Sarah Smith, 32, was charged with a felony bench warrant, and possession of methamphetamine.
