A man was injured and later released from the hospital and police are still seeking information to help lead to the arrest of the man responsible for a shooting on the evening of October 15 in Cedartown.
While the game was underway at Cedartown High School for Homecoming at 8:11 p.m., police were called out to Central Street after reports of a shooting on Friday, October 15.
When officers arrive, Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome said they found a man with a gunshot wound to his leg and no suspect in sight.
Newsome said the altercation was caused by an argument between two males.
The gunshot victim was taken to an area hospital and treated and released for his wound.
Polk County Police were called out to help along with the Cedartown Police who were searching the Central Street area for a suspect who was first believed to be leaving in a car, then was said to be fleeing on foot in the Thompson Street area. Officers from PCPD found one man who might have been involved in the incident, who was found to be in possession of drugs and a handgun on his person.
After he was questioned at the Cedartown Police department, he was booked on drug and gun charges. Despite the arrest of Chance Henri Tumlin, 21, of 12 Mississippi Drive, Cedartown, Newsome said that Tumlin “appears to be unrelated to the shooting.”
Tumlin, who was found with three others while police were searching for a potential suspect in the shooting, had a bag of oxycodone on the ground next to his person. Polk County Police spotted it, then reported that they smelled marijuana coming off of Tumlin and asked to search him further.

Officers found a handgun in his waistband that he admitted having, then found marijuana – three different bags – inside of a bag that he was carrying when the four men were stopped. He also had lots of empty baggies, and a bag containing yellow and blue tablets that officers later identified as Alprazolam.
They also found $1,560 in cash in his front pocket.
He was charged with felonies for possession of firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies; possession of tools for commission of a crime; two counts of purchase, possession manufacture, distribution, or sale of marijuana; possession of a schedule II controlled substance; possession of a schedule IV controlled substance; Possession with intent of a schedule I or schedule II controlled substance; and possession with intent of a scheudle III, IV or V controlled substance. He also faces misdemeanor charges of carrying a concealed weapon: firearm and possession of marijuana.
Meanwhile, police are asking the public to help with the case. Those with tips can contact the Cedartown Police at 770-748-4123 to provide confidential information about what happened on Friday. The help could lead to an arrest in the case, which remains open until a perpetrator is found.
“We’re still investigating this incident to determine who the shooter was,” Newsome said.
The incident is just the latest shooting to happen in the area, including a May shooting death that has still yet to be solved.
