New playground equipment installed at Bert Wood thanks to volunteer help, Kaboom! grant

Chilly weather didn’t stop a group of volunteers and employees from the City of Cedartown from gathering on Saturday morning to put up a new structure at a local park that will hopefully bring children joy in the near term and for years to come.

A grant from Kaboom! helped provide the money to pay for a new playground structure put up on November 13. It sports a Cedartown-themed red and black color scheme, a places for children to slide and climb, and a spinner that youth can ride on as well.

There are additional plans for the playground at Bert Wood as a swingset is set to be added as well. City Manager Edward Guzman said that when the swingset arrives and is installed, an additional announcement will be forthcoming about its addition.

He added that a small amount of landscaping work remains ahead of the official opening of the structure on Tuesday morning for children to enjoy.

Along with some of the normal features of a playground: slides, platforms, stairs, nets and all kinds of places to climb, it also has an educational feature as well.

Youth can stop and learn how to read braille on a sign installed at the park that includes the alphabet and numbers.
