Downtown Rockmart has gotten a lot brighter at night in recent days.
Rockmart Mayor Sherman Ross commented on new bulbs in the streetlamps along Marble Street in downtown, which has increased the brightness after their recent update by Georgia Power.
“I like the new lights downtown, that has really brightened things up,” Ross said during the council meeting on Tuesday. “I think we’ll all get used to the brightness.”
City Manager Stacey Smith reported this week in a follow-up conversation on the topic that Georgia Power will be replacing additional bulbs in the lamp posts in other areas of the city as well since they manage the street lights throughout the city. Among the area to get updated lighting will be lamp posts along the Silver Comet Trail within the downtown area.
The city still controls the string lights that went up in recent years as an additional attraction to downtown at night.
This latest update to improve the downtown streetscape at night comes with the bonus of also increasing safety for businesses after hours, providing security cameras more area to see with the increased brightness.
