A longtime local farmer was given a proper sendoff at the end of February when family and friends celebrated his life and watched as he was carried away in a mule-drawn wagon down local byways toward the cemetery.

A Feb. 28 funeral service was held for Ronald “Ronnie” Campbell Sr. after he died on Feb. 25 at Antioch Baptist Church, and was laid to rest at the Antioch Cemetery.

Campbell, a local well-known and longtime farmer on Grady Road, was a 1969 graduate of Rockmart High School and worked for Georgia Power as well.

His family asked Freeman Harris Funeral Home to help with the arrangements for providing Campbell the honor of being taken to Antioch Cemetery in a wagon drawn by a pair of mules.

“When Mr. Campbell’s son Jay asked me during the arrangement conference if they could do this, I looked at him and said, “absolutely.” Anything for the families we serve,” said Nathan Womack, manager of Freeman Harris Funeral Home in Rockmart.

Along with photos from the procession, a drone was deployed overhead to provide a video from above.
