The Cedartown Performing Arts Center all this week and through next week is hosting dozens of local youth who are taking part in a camp meant for 2020, but that got pushed back to this year that wraps up with a June 18 performance where the songs of Moana take center stage.

McCall Pirkle is directing and leading the camp that ends with next week’s show for Moana Jr. The 60-minute musical adventure, designed for young performers, is based on the 2016 Disney film Moana.

Tickets went on sale on Monday for the 6 p.m. show next Friday. They are $5 each.

“We’re so excited to be able to move forward with our 2021 Children’s Enrichment Summer Camp. Last year we ultimately had to do a pre-recorded livestream performance with a limited number of children. This year has been unlike any other we have experienced in recent times, but we must continue to push forward together” said facility director Oscar Guzman.

In a first for a youth performance at the Cedartown Performing Arts Center, Guzman is also excited by another first for the downtown theater: an American Sign Language translator will be interpreting the entire performance next Friday.

He emphasized that this year is largely possible due to a project grant awarded to the program by The Georgia Council for the Arts.

Check back for more photos from the performance next weekend.
