A Memorial Day Service is being planned at the Veteran’s Memorial Park next to the Silver Comet Trailhead in downtown Rockmart on Monday afternoon.
The service is set to start at 2 p.m. and is being organized by the American Legion Post 12 in Rockmart. All are invited to attend the service honoring service members.
The guest speaker this year is Roger Parris, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Organizers are hoping this year will provide the opportunity to get back into the tradition of annual Memorial Day services honoring those who gave their lives in defense of the United States in the armed forces over the past 244 years of the nation’s existence.
Memorial Day has been celebrated in one form or another since the end of the Civil War. It is observed on the last Monday in May.
Last year, no services were held amid the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic in Rockmart.
