Grand Re-Opening set for May 14

Fans of Ideal Bakery will be happy to hear it is set to return to normal hours in two weeks as a new family takes over the longtime downtown fixture on Main Street.

Cedartown’s Ideal Bakery is going to re-open on May 14 according to the latest update from their Facebook page. The postponement was due to “minor set back” the new owners faced, so they had to push back their planned opening date by a week. They announced plans on May 3 for an opening day this week, but some internal setbacks caused issues requiring the wait.

The McGee family – Michael, Jill and Harley – will be operating the Ideal Bakery, taking over from the Hubbard family who had operated on a part-time basis over the past few years.

“We’re all very excited to bring Ideal Bakery back to full time and look forward to serving everyone some tasty treats,” said Michael McGee on Monday afternoon.

McGee – who also serves as Polk School District Police Department Chief – will retain his full time job and help out with the new family business on a part-time basis.

Ideal Bakery has been a staple of Cedartown for decades, offering everything from cakes to doughnuts to their famous Lemon Egg Pies.

Once they open next Wednesday, hours will be set at 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
